Just 10 minutes from Wellington CBD, this picturesque sanctuary is home to some of New Zealand’s most rare and extraordinary wildlife.
Overlooking the sanctuary is Rātā café, an idyllic eatery where you can dine in or order takeaway refreshments and explore the beautiful grounds. As part of Zealandia, all proceeds from the café support the conservation work of the sanctuary.
Rātā café is a fully lisenced venue and creates an ideal indoor space suitable for event hosting, including Rātā Balcony. Other indoor spaces are also available within the Zealandia Visitor Centre including the Pāteke Room and Hihi Room.
Rātā Balcony is a private function area with large windows that bring the outdoors in, showcasing the venue’s iconic reservoir and heritage valve tower. Accommodating up to 60 guests seated or 100 standing, the Balcony is perfect for wedding receptions and small ceremonies.
The Heritage Lawn is perfect for outdoor weddings, while the Round Lawn and other smaller lawn spaces in the lower valley are suitable for smaller ceremonies or private picnics.
Pāteke Room is a large indoor space which can be reserved as a larger indoor venue in the event of bad weather as a back up venue for your ceremony. Seat up to 80 guests, or 120 standing in the Pāteke Room.
Take your wedding the next level and book a private guided tour for your guests. Tours are flexible and available during the day or night, allowing you to enjoy all the sights and sounds of Zealandia while catering to your individual requirements.
Finally, as an unforgettable add-on, you may also like to invite your guests to jump aboard Ara Kawau, Zealandia’s electric boat, for a ride across the reservoir as part of your function. Ara Kawau is available for private hire and includes a skipper dedicated to your celebrations.
